Originální abstrakt

The aim of the efforts of all professionals involved in the protection of tangible cultural heritage values is to prolong the existence of heritage objects in a time far beyond their natural lifetime. Cleaning can be considered as a key operation in the process of conservation. The removal of impurities and deposits of various origins and chemical compositions from the surfaces of various types of objects is a case-specific process. New methods and technologies, based on the use of knowledge about the effects of low-temperature plasma on various inorganic and organic materials, seem promising. They also provide environmentally friendly and human-like solutions (elimination of the replacement of organic, often toxic substances). It is also important to ensure the safety of conservation technologies for cultural heritage. Part of the work must not be only the setting of conditions that effectively remove unwanted substances from the material, but also the verification of possible adverse effects on the treated material, even in the long term regarding prolonging the lifetime of historical artefacts. The book represents a review of the contemporary low temperature plasma applications in cleaning and preservation techniques of cultural heritage objects, including several case studies.
