Humic acids (HAs) are very active in interaction with inorganic contaminants mainly with heavy metals. These interactions are well known to depend on chemical structure and composition of humic acids. In this paper differences in chemical structure and composition of HA isolated from different matrices (soil types: Cambisol, Luvisol, Chernozem, Calcaric and Gleyic Fluvisol and lignite) are presented and discussed. The structure and composition of HAs was studied by elemental analyses, determination of carboxylic groups, VIS and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Obtained values of determined parameters show, higher degree of aromaticity and mature of Chernozem and lignite HA, contrary to HAs isolated from another soil types. On the basis receiving data it can be propose similar large binding capacity of Chernozem and lignite HA, contrary to Cambisol and Luvisol HA. However minor differences mainly in 13C NMR spectra between Chc HA and lignite HA can indicate slight distinction for their binding capacity to heavy metals.
