Support of EU dynamism and competitiveness globally by creating the knowledge-based economy is one of strategic EU objectives for this decade. Even in the Czech Republic become these topics the key issues, in particular from the point of competitiveness of traditional industrial branches (e.g. mechanical engineering) which must look form new knowledge and approaches to maintain their competitive strengths. For the time being importance of the industrial branches, designated as the knowledge based industries, does rise. Within the framework of macroeconomic analysis we will compare development of these industries not only in EU-15, but we will also focus ourselves to the Czech Republic and certain CEE countries. Services or the so called market services will play an important role, when supporting competitiveness of industrial companies. Utilization of business services by industrial companies in traditional branches is a real call which might support competitiveness and development of their activities abroad.
