This study aims to analyse the distribution of elements in rat hearts with artificially induced myocardial fibrosis. Within this study, an appropriate LA-ICP-MS methodology has been developed to identify the changes in elemental distribution as a result of myocardial fibrosis via comparison healthy and fibrotic tissue and to locate the fibrotic tissue. Moreover, the influence of sample staining on calcium, manganese, copper, and zinc distribution was also investigated. The distribution of iron specifically seems to be helpful in recognizing a damaged myocardium.
