Abstract Purpose of the article: The purpose of this article is to examine the phenomenon of Creative Industries, with the summarization of current shortcomings pointed out by academics around the world. The second part of this article is presenting key indices regarding the position of Creative Industries within the economy of the Czech Republic. Methodology/methods: The article is built upon secondary research of relevant research papers written by renowned academics in the field of Creative Industries and on analysis of the secondary statistical data provided by Czech Statistical Office. Scientific aim: The article aims to summarize the current problems associated with Creative Industries and to examine the current state of Creative Industries within the Czech Republic. Findings: It is clear from the research that creative industries and their problems arise mainly from a linguistic point of view and the uncertainty of which sectors should be included in the Creative Industries and which, on the contrary, should not. These problems are subsequently hampering the emergence of an internationally valid definition that would ultimately make it possible to compare the performance of Creative Industries across countries. There is a developed methodology in the Czech Republic for the measurement of Creative Industries. Looking at the available data, it is clear, that the share of Creative Industries on Czech GDP is not increasing but stagnating, which is contradictory to the trend in the developed western countries. Conclusions: The research results summarize the current challenges in the Creative Industries, offering a possible explanation of the stagnating share of creative industries on the Czech GDP.
