O projektu

The electromagnetic (EM) behavior of metasurfaces whose constitutive properties do not vary in time has been extensively studied and is relatively well understood. The demanding objectives of future communication, imaging and EM protection systems, however, call for the use of unconventional technologies that would overcome the physical bounds of standard time-invariant systems. A promising hardware technology to achieve the goals is identified in the concept of reconfigurable, intelligent space-time 4D metasurfaces whose EM properties can dynamically adapt in response to time-varying (TV) environments. Since the state-of-the-art EM computational methods do not allow their efficient analysis, the project will address the issue by developing fundamentally new analytical and numerical approaches, thereby providing key enablers for designing smart, adaptive 4D metasurfaces.
