Knowledge discovery in image databases enables to use data operations (retrieval, sorting, filtering, etc) on images. The main question is, what kind of knowledge we can obtain from an image and what kind of knowledge we need to apply a data operation on images. In the end of a paper we present an example of knowledge for history of art.
