Paper describes the first results of research into the optimisation of the decision-making process for selecting the best strategy and planning of water mains rehabilitation and reconstruction. The structure of an expert system as a support tool and the basic description of a multicriteria optimisation process for annual reconstruction plans are presented. The proposal of the multicriteria function has been tested in a case study.
