Small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) play a vital role in the development of national economies, not only providing new sources of employment and as a means od replacing declining traditional industries but also as a source of innovation, creativity and international competitiveness. researchers have also shown that SMEs development is important for both regional inegration and regional development, citing the need for sophisticated and tergeted SME support policies and networking facilities, for instance. What seems to be neede in ASEAN is a focussed SME policy that supports SME development and renewal in a constantly changing world.
