Ascertainment and evaluation of students knowledge is a natural component of any teaching process and sometimes it makes the major source for students motivation to study. It also constitutes the feedback between the teacher and the students. An examination should in no case consist in a mere formal ascertainment of the students knowledge, but, rather, in a diagnosis of the students knowledge in Physics. At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication are employed currently only written examinations and this examination method is going to be prevailing at all Universities in the Czech Republic. It is the intention of this paper to controvert against this trend and point out some stumbling blocks which may occur in the case of written examinations being used exclusively.
