This paper discusses the feasibility of using a thermoelectric generator (TEG) as a power source for implantable biomedical device. The study compares two proposed vital signs measurement system and identifies their limitations in low-power operation. Furthermore, the simulated performance of the TEG is evaluated with respect to its dimensional design and dependence on ambient temperature. Finally, the power consumption of several state-of-the-art devices, including sensors, processors and memory is stated. Based on these findings, an energy budged analysis is performed to assess the feasibility of TEG-power operation. The findings show that while continuous operation is not feasible, using an appropriate duty cycle enables successful periodic operation.
