Originální abstrakt
The phenomenon called “wet-rail” describes a sudden drop in the friction coefficient when water, iron oxides, or other fine particles mix to form a paste-like third body. Although the phenomenon is well known from railway operations, the physical relationships are not yet fully understood. The aim is to provide experimental evidence of the transient nature of the phenomenon in rolling contacts contaminated with a water-particle suspension based on optical observation of the contact. The results support the water‑driven starvation mechanism triggering particle accumulation and load‑carrying capacity of the transient solid film.
