The distributed fibre optic sensing system based on single-mode optical fibre as a distributed sensor for sensing of mechanical vibrations is described. Various events generating vibrations such as walking or running persons, their activities (digging, drilling, overcoming the fences, etc), also moving vehicles, trains and others can be detected, localized and classified.

The distributed fibre optic sensing system based on single-mode optical fibre as a distributed sensor for sensing of mechanical vibrations is described.
