The study evaluated the use of mobile eye-tracking in outdoor sports through field measurements in orienteering, mountain biking, and alpine skiing. Wearable systems (Pupil Labs Invisible, Tobii Pro Glasses 3) were tested for their accuracy, usability, and data integration with GPS and IMU sensors. A key methodological limitation was identified in the difference between the scene camera’s field of view and the human visual field, which restricts peripheral data capture. In orienteering, eye-tracking revealed how athletes alternate focus between map, compass, and terrain, and how navigation strategies differ between novices and experienced runners. In mountain biking, skilled riders displayed earlier and smoother gaze shifts when approaching terrain waves, jumps, and corners. In alpine skiing, the method showed potential for analysing gaze strategies in gate training and under low-visibility conditions, though limited by camera FOV during overtaking scenarios. Overall, mobile eye-tracking proved to be a powerful and field-ready tool for analysing perception, decision-making, and spatial awareness in natural environments. It enables both qualitative and quantitative analysis and provides valuable feedback for coaching, performance diagnostics, and safety. The approach holds promise for broader applications in shooting, climbing, and motorsports.
