The use of LoRa for direct-to-satellite communication is gaining attention due to its low power consumption and long-range capabilities. This paper evaluates the feasibility of using LoRa to uplink meteorological data from an Antarctic station to a CubeSat. Theoretical link budget calculations are performed to assess the required power and antenna configurations, considering the high free-space path loss and power constraints. Additionally, the impact of Doppler shift on LoRa signals is analyzed. A beacon-based synchronization strategy is proposed to optimize transmission timing and energy efficiency. Furthermore, Low Rate Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (LR-FHSS) is mentioned as an alternative modulation scheme.
