Viton O-rings represent material which is used for the sealing of the components in electron microscopes. This material can be in contact with acid vapours which are present at the specimen chamber of the environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) when some acid specimens as e.g. battery mass are observed. Knowledge of the influence of acid vapours on Viton O-ring surface is useful.
