O projektu

The main goal of project is to provide experimental proof of concept that functional and structured surfaces with deposited magnetically bistable materials can be reversibly switched by light. Lab-scale verification of this idea will contribute to understanding the behavior of magnetically bistable Single Ion Magnets (SIMs) and Spin Crossover (SCO) materials on surfaces, enabling the future direct application of them in the construction of microelectronic or high-capacity-memory devices. Project deals with the preparation of Fe(II) SCO and Co(II) SIM complexes with pyridyl-benzimidazole ligands, functionalized with phenylazo or anthracene photoisomerizable units. Structure of proposed complexes will be specifically designed for the surface deposition by sublimation or by wet lithography. Such approach will enable us to prepare surfaces that carry two directions of information - logical structures and light-controllable magnetic bistability of deposited SCO or SIMs. The project outputs will, thus, contribute to solving the size limitations of contemporary memory and electronic devices
