O projektu

Limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) is a novel type of building material that provides a significant reduction of CO2 emissions by replacing of Portland cement with supplementary cementitious materials with lower CO2 footprint. Recent research has primarily focused on the production process of LC3, the mineralogical and chemical composition, and the impact on the hydration process and mechanical properties. Since the crucial aspect of the application of any material is its durability, the main goal of the project is to investigate the influence of elevated temperatures on the performance of this type of cement which has been poorly studied so far. The project will provide a complex characterization of the microstructure and mechanical, fracture, thermal, and hygric properties of LC3 materials during and after the exposure to temperatures ranging from 200 to 1200 °C. Different cooling regimes will also be performed after high temperature exposure and their effect on the residual mechanical properties and microstructure will be analysed.
