The main aim of this project is, in form of R&D, utilization and innovation of laser triangulation method (LTM) for detection of surface defects on continuously cast products. The purpose of this “R&D and innovations” is mainly raising the quality of semi-finished steel products such as wires and rods, as well as earning an optimization of production processes. Another intention is to develop measurement and control systems and to integrate them into production process. Thanks to these means, the origin of inhomogeneity formation (detected by LTM) will be evaluated. Moreover, detection tools will be researched in order to locate inhomogeneities formed in the undersurface area of the cast products. The R&D will focus on the whole range of steel grades, i.e. peritectic, screw, chain, bearing, spring, carbon and low alloyed ones. The solution will, particularly, be pointed to overall correlation of continuously cast billets surface quality (defined using LTM), surface quality of wires and rods, and production technology used. This solution will be aided by: - R&D in the field of technological parameters of production - to gain higher steel quality (slag regimes, micro cleanness, chemical heterogeneity) - R&D of detection units for elimination of the slag outlet to tundish - The use of the oscillatory-acoustic measuring using an accelerometer to detect frictional forces between mould and cast products - R&D of suitable methods for cast products´ subsurface quality check - The development of a catalogue of cast products defects, allowing defining the quality of the (final) rolled products, for producer – grant beneficiary - The use of statistical methods for each solution´s step optimizing. Effects of continuous casting parameters´ optimization (casting speed, over heat temperature, mould powders, temperature profile) will be assessed based on the results of cast billets´ and finished rolled products´ surface quality correlation analyzes.
