The paper presents selected results of an extensive experimental program focused on the determination of mechanical fracture parameters independent of the specimen size and geometry. Testing along with an ad-vanced evaluation and a soft computing-based identification of specimens of multiple sizes in multiple test configurations and analyses of fracture processes using multiscale modeling approaches are part of the de-velopment of a comprehensive multilevel approach for experimental–computational determination of me-chanical fracture parameters of concrete as a typical quasi-brittle material. Both three-point bending and wedge splitting tests, respectively, were performed simultaneously using different specimen sizes and initial notch depths. In order to extend the knowledge of mechanical and fracture behavior of tested concrete, com-pression tests, splitting tensile tests and non-destructive tests based on the resonance method were also car-ried out. Two well separated depths of notches were considered for each size and test configuration. Evalua-tion of fracture parameters was carried out using the work-of-fracture method. Finally, the size-independent specific fracture energy was back calculated from the measured specific fracture energy.
