This paper describes the algorithms for edge detection in images. The Isotropic, Prewitt and Sobel operators are discussed. The principles and algorithms have been used in an application that was developed at Brno University of Technology and has been programmed in the MS Visual C++ environment. The paper contains a comparison of Fourier descriptors( FD) and object momenta for image recognition.
