This contribution describes an imaging application architecture that is intended for easy application development of applications and content based image retrieval systems for image databases with hardware acceleration. The architecture includes both software components and hardware. The contribution also includes a description of segmentation algorithm for image database content based retrieval that is intended for implementation in hardware.
