Programme: Electrical, Electronic, Communication and Control Technology

Length of Study: 3 years

Accredited from: Accredited until: 31.12.2007

Profile

The study area MICROELECTRONICS AND TECHNOLOGY (B-MET) aims to educate field specialists with the knowledge of design and technology of integrated circuits, and electronic systems and appliances used in diverse fields of electronics and electrical engineering. Students acquire knowledge of analogue and digital signals, materials, production processes and computer technology, with a strong orientation towards microelectronics, programming of microcontrollers and FPGA devices, design of electronic appliances and application of electronic circuits and systems. Instruction is provided primarily by the Department of Microelectronics (UMEL) and the Department of Electrotechnology (UETE). A wide range of optional courses along with individual technical projects and the bachelor’s final work enable students to focus on design and computer simulation of integrated circuits, design and technology of electronic systems and applications of microelectronic circuits for instrumentation, microelectronic sensors, micro- and nanotechnologies, technology of analogue and digital integrated circuits, design and production of printed circuit boards, surface mount technology, testing and measurement technology, economics, organization of production and basic business concepts.
Alternatively, students can focus on the area of biomedical and clinical applications (biosensors, implants and bioinformatics). They also acquire a profound knowledge of information and communication technologies. In order to broaden their knowledge, students may also choose technical courses offered in other branches of study in the bachelor’s degree programme at FEEC BUT and also language, economics, management and ecology courses.

Key learning outcomes

The graduates dispose of good knowledge in the design and technology of ICs, electronic systems and instruments for application in various fields of electronics and electrical engineering, analogue and digital signals, materials and technology processes, namely concentrated to microelectronics and application of electronic circuits and systems. The area of knowledge focuses also to disegn and computer simulation of ICs, design of electronic systems and application of microelectronic systems for instrumentation, technology of ICs and electronic systems, design and manufacturing of PCB and SMT boards, testers and measurement instruments, economy and manufacturing planning. His profession can be adapted to biomedical and clinic applications, and basis of information and communication technologies.
The graduates are qualified in many specialized areas of microelectronics, design, simulation, technology and production and applications of ICs, designa and application of technology for manufacturing of electrical apliences radioengineering, mobile and other wireless communication techniques, instrumental electronics, audio and video techniques, analogue and digital multimedial signal processing, and/or medical techniques. The graduates dispose also with the related knowledge of some areas of telecommunication techniques and applied informatics. In all of this branches they are able to apply efficiently and to exploit effectively modern computing, measuring and automation techniques. Owing to wide fundamentals of the applications oriented study branche there is ensured high adaptability of the graduate for most the requirements of his future practice.
The graduates of the bachelor study branche can be applied in design, construction, applications and services of a wide spectrum of electronic institutions, mainly in the branch of communication and data transmission services and systems, in the range of broadcasting and TV techniques and services, eventually, with specialized knowledge, in the range of biomedical electronics and traffic of hospitals and other medical institutions. In all of this branches they are able to work also as the technical-managers in industry and services.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

The graduates of MICROELECTRONICS AND TECHNOLOGY in the bachelor’s degree programme have a profound knowledge in the area of design and computer simulation of analogue and digital integrated circuits, design of electronic systems and applications of microelectronic circuits for instrumentation, technology of analogue and digital integrated circuits, technology of electronic systems, materials in electrical engineering and production processes, design and production of printed circuits, surface mount technology, testing and measurement technology, programming of microcontrollers and FPGA, economics and organization of production and basic business concepts. Alternatively, students acquire knowledge of biomedical and clinical applications, or additional knowledge of information and communication technologies.
The graduates of this branch may find future employment as specialists mainly in the area of design, construction and production of electronic and electrotechnical appliances and devices with built-in intelligence (controlled by microprocessor, microcontrollers, PC or PDA), integrated circuits and semiconductor components, surface mount technology of printed circuit boards. They may also assume positions in the area of design and development of electronic systems and custom-made integrated circuits, business and service, and lower executive and management in electronics companies. A strong practical orientation of study enables direct engagement of graduates into production, operation or service processes and provides them with a good background to increase their theoretical knowledge in the follow-up master’s degree programme.
