BUT responds to current challenges and offers studies that keep pace with the times

Technology, sustainability, digitalisation and new societal needs. Brno University of Technology continuously develops its range of study programmes to reflect a rapidly changing world. Prospective students can therefore choose from a variety of modern fields that connect technology and art with current trends and topics resonating across society.

BUT offers trendy fields of study that respond to social demand. | Author: Steezy, s.r.o.

Modern study programmes at BUT show that technical education today covers a much broader spectrum of topics than ever before. From sport and architecture to artificial intelligence, the common denominator is above all an emphasis on interdisciplinarity, innovation and the ability to respond to the needs of today’s world. Take a look at a selection of bachelor’s and master’s programmes from faculties and units and don’t miss the opportunity to study at BUT!

  • Technology in the service of sport
At the Centre of Sports Activities, applicants can study the bachelor’s programme Sports Technology, which connects sport with technical disciplines. Students learn to work with modern devices for motion analysis, training monitoring and the evaluation of physical fitness. Thanks to a strong emphasis on practice, they gain experience for example in sports centres, research laboratories or companies developing sports equipment.

  • A new perspective on planning cities and landscapes
The Faculty of Architecture offers a new master’s programme Integrative Spatial Planning, responding to current challenges in planning and developing cities, landscapes and regions. Students learn to work with topics such as climate change, urbanisation or regional inequalities and search for solutions for the sustainable development of cities and landscapes. Teaching combines lectures, studio work, field teaching and interdisciplinary cooperation with other institutions.

  • Electromobility as the future of transport
The electrification of transport is one of the key trends of today. The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication therefore offers the bachelor’s programme E-mobility and Sustainability, which provides students with knowledge of electric power engineering, power electronics, electromechanics and the digitalisation of transport. After completing their studies, graduates understand the complex interconnection of electric drives and energy systems as well as their environmental impacts.

  • Science-based food technology
The Faculty of Chemistry offers the bachelor’s programme Chemistry and Food Technology, which responds to the growing emphasis on quality, safety and innovation in the food industry. Students gain knowledge of chemistry, biochemistry and modern production processes and can pursue careers in the food industry, research or quality control.

  • Next-generation digital technologies
The Faculty of Information Technology reflects the rapid development of digital technologies, for example through the specialised master’s programme Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence. Students focus on machine learning, data analysis, software development and intelligent systems that are now entering all areas of life. The programme combines theoretical foundations of computer science with the practical development of modern applications and work with large datasets. Graduates can apply their knowledge in research, technology companies, start-ups or in the development of smart digital services and systems using artificial intelligence.

  • The first step into the world of mechanical engineering
At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, students can enrol in a specialisation of the bachelor’s programme Fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering, which provides a broad technical foundation and allows students to gradually explore specific areas of mechanical engineering. Students become familiar with key principles of mechanics, materials engineering, design, manufacturing and modern production technologies. As a result, they gain solid technical foundations as well as an overview of modern technologies used in industry. The programme opens the way to further studies and careers in industrial companies, development or technology centres.

  • Managers for the digital age
At the Faculty of Business and Management, applicants can study the bachelor’s programme Managerial Informatics, which connects informatics, data work and business management. Students gain an overview of digital technologies, data analytics and the functioning of information systems in companies, and learn how to use these tools in managing business processes. The programme combines knowledge of informatics, data analysis, economics and the use of artificial intelligence tools with practical skills in management and organisational leadership in the digital economy.

  • Engineering for a sustainable future
The Faculty of Civil Engineering offers the bachelor’s programme Environmental Engineering, which focuses on solving problems related to environmental protection and sustainable development. During their studies, students become familiar with the principles of water management, wastewater treatment, air protection and waste management. An important part of the programme is also working with modern technologies and analytical methods that allow monitoring and evaluating the state of the environment.

  • Digital games as a creative discipline
The Faculty of Fine Arts develops the creative industries through the bachelor’s programme Design with a specialisation in Game Design. Students work with visual style, concepts and interactive game environments and prepare for careers in the rapidly growing game industry. The programme connects artistic thinking with digital technologies and enables students to develop their own creative projects.

  • Expert systems in transport
The Institute of Forensic Engineering offers the master’s programme Expert Engineering in Transport, which focuses on traffic accident analysis, transport safety and expert assessments. Graduates find employment for example as transport experts, court experts or specialists in the safety of transport systems.
