How to spot a dodgy journal? Possible signs of unfair practices:
- Rapid peer review, lack of or inadequate peer review.
- Inaccurate information on impact factor, misleading metrics (Global Impact Factor, IndexCopernicus), inaccurate information on journal indexing in databases.
- Reaching to authors with unsolicited emails regarding publication of articles or invitations to editorial boards (academic spam).
- Inaccurate or missing information on publication fees.
- General journal names, names similar to reputable journals, interchangeable abbreviation of a journal or an extension of a well-established name.
- Low percentage of rejected articles.
- Unclear identification of the publisher and editor; it is impossible or difficult to contact the publisher; use of generic and free emails.
- Questionable composition of the editorial board.
- The published articles are of low quality without scientific merit.
