Formula cars, robots and chemistry experiments. Brno Exhibition Centre will once again come alive with science during the first weekend of September. The Festival of Science and Technology will transform Pavilion A into an interactive laboratory full of experiments, workshops and science shows, where BUT, together with other exhibitors, will present dozens of activities and show that science can be both inspiring and fun.Experience BUT at the Science and Technology Festival. | Author: Václav KoníčekThe popular Festival of Science and Technology, organised annually by the Brno Observatory and Planetarium, proves year after year that science is not just a matter of textbooks and laboratories. Brno University of Technology is also joining in with this idea, presenting visitors with mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials research, as well as space technologies and chemistry as part of its exhibition. “We want to show visitors that science and technology are not just about formulas and complex theories, but above all about discovering, experimenting and finding solutions. That is why we have prepared activities where children and adults can try things out for themselves, create something and perhaps even discover that technology can be a lot of fun,” says Lenka Svobodová, the event coordinator for BUT.Science and Technology Festival 2025. | Author: Václav KoníčekAt the university stands, visitors can try out how a racing car is made, sit in a professional simulator or discover the latest Formula Student car from the TU Brno Racing team. At the stand of the student team Chicken Wings, they will discover the principles of aircraft design and build their own glider. Space enthusiasts can look forward to the YSpace team, where they can learn about the KOSTKA satellite – the first Czech satellite designed and built entirely by students, which is already in orbit – as well as the upcoming CIMER mission. Children will also be able to build their own cubesat at the Experiance BUT stand and take it home with them.Science and Technology Festival 2025. | Author: Václav KoníčekThere will also be exhibitions focusing on materials and chemistry. The Faculty of Chemistry is preparing its popular chemistry show featuring fire, fog and colourful experiments, as well as other fun demonstrations. The Materialisti from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, meanwhile, will demonstrate metal hardening, the magnetic properties of materials and a Cold Spray technology simulator.Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies will offer modern technologies that visitors can experience for themselves – from a humanoid robot, 3D printing and a journey through a chip to a plasma ball, heart-rate measurements and badge making. Visitors can also look forward to activities focused on artificial intelligence and genetics presented by CEITEC BUT, as well as construction challenges from the Faculty of Civil Engineering.Science and Technology Festival 2025. | Author: Václav KoníčekVisitors can discover their enthusiasm for modern technology in the open workshop of Lizard Engineers or during demonstrations of pneumatic muscles and soft robotics by the student team Pneumotion. The Institute of Design at the FME will also showcase its latest innovations, featuring student projects as well as modern technologies used in development and prototyping. Robotics will also be featured at the stand of the mechatronics, who will bring four robots representing the main areas of mechatronics – programming, control, mechanical design and electrical engineering. Visitors will even be able to take home their own small robot!The Festival of Science and Technology offers a rich programme for children, students, parents and all technology enthusiasts. More than a hundred science and technology institutions, educational organisations, academic workplaces, universities and private companies are taking part. The programme will also feature a range of accompanying activities, including the Science Theatre, LEGO workshops and an escape game.
