BUT spent the summer with technology. Summer schools inspired young talents

Brno University of Technology spent its summer with high school students, offering inspiration, fun, new experience and stress-free education through its many summer schools, which took place from the end of June to the beginning of September at nine faculties and parts of BUT.

During these summer schools, participants discovered interesting topics in the field of science, technology and art, networked and experienced everything not just in theory, but also in practice. At the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, high school students learned the basics of mechanics, became engineers, explored nanotechnology and the world of 3D printing. Experts from BUT even introduced the field of computer technology and artificial intelligence not only to high school students, but also to primary school pupils.

The Center of Sports Activities together with the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technology showed how technology is used in sports. "It was a great opportunity to learn more about sports technology and try out different methods of motion analysis. The participants enjoyed the summer school and I would definitely recommend anyone interested in technology and sports to apply for the next edition," said Oto Janoušek, the co-organiser of the summer school. Separately, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies prepared a summer school focusing on biomedicine and also participated in the organisation of a summer school on nuclear engineering.

A special IT summer school for girls was organized by the Faculty of Information Technology. Participants programmed, worked with virtual reality and made their own chat application. Additionally, the faculty also held a suburban camp with a computer game theme for primary school students and an international summer school for university students studying computer science and computer engineering.

The scientific environment and clean laboratories were explored by high school students at the CEITEC BUT research centre, where the summer school allowed them to explore the secrets of science and research. University students expanded their horizons in the field of neural engineering and working with technology. The Faculty of Chemistry hosted the International Water Summer School, which focused on water reuse and the sustainability of water resources. And the interest in studying technical disciplines was supported by the Summer Technical School at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Artistically inclined participants could choose from eleven summer schools at the Faculty of Fine Arts, where they developed their creative skills and from architectural courses organised by the Faculty of Architecture. "We see the ability to realise one's ideas, even with one's own hands, as a key part of architectural education. To be able to take a material in hand, think about how best to use its properties and then build your own building is an invaluable experience for everyone. It is a solid foundation for all further designing," said architect Jan Mléčka.
