GENERAL INFORMATION

Postgraduate traineeships within the Erasmus+ programme give recent graduates an opportunity to travel and gain a professional work experience after finishing studies at Brno University of Technology. Similarly to traineeships organised during studies, postgraduate traineeships aim to apply the students’ knowledge in practice, provide them with international work experience, become an interesting item to add to their CVs and maybe also to help graduates to get an employment contract at the place of their traineeship.

Graduate internships may take place only in countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme (hereinafter referred to as the “programme country”):

EU Member States: Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Cyprus, Lithuania, Latvia, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Romania, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, and Sweden; countries of the European Economic Area (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein); Turkey, Serbia, and North Macedonia.

CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION

The conditions are described in comprehensive and detailed fashion in the Conditions of Postgraduate Traineeships

  • Application during the course of study
  • Traineeship to be completed within 12 months after graduation
  • It is not possible to enroll in another study programme at the same time
  • Arrangements regarding taxes, health insurance, and pension insurance
  • The internship must be arranged as a full-time position (minimum 35 hours per week); otherwise, it cannot be carried out.

Duration of the mobility: 2-12 months

    FINANCING OF THE STAY

The scholarship is a financial contribution that:

    • is paid in two instalments (80% + 20%)
    • may be combined with other funding sources outside EU funds
    • is not paid for the online part of the mobility period

    Grant amount:

    • EUR 810/month – Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Austria, Sweden
    • EUR 750/month – Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Malta, Portugal, Greece, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain
    • EUR 690/month – Bulgaria, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Serbia, North Macedonia, Turkey

Travel Costs: Travel distance is calculated from the home institution in Brno. Distance calculation can be done via the Distance Calculator.

Based on the signed participant agreement, the student will receive financial support for the duration of the mobility period according to the rates for the destination country.

The financial support is only a contribution and is not intended to cover all expenses; the student’s own financial contribution is therefore expected.

Financial support from the Erasmus+ programme may be combined with a salary or other compensation provided by the host company, except for funding from other European Union programmes.

    The financial support is paid:

    • in CZK to a Czech-currency bank account held with any bank in the Czech Republic
    • in EUR to a euro bank account held with any bank in the European Union

Before signing the participant agreement, the student must have a bank account entered in STUDIS to which the scholarship will be transferred.

The online mobility period is not financially supported by the Erasmus+ programme. Financial support is granted only for the period of physical mobility.

For traineeships, the financial support is paid before the start of the mobility period, after the participant agreement has been signed. For graduate internships, the payment is divided into two instalments: the first instalment of up to 80% is paid after signing the participant agreement, while the second instalment of approximately 20% is paid after the student’s return and submission of the Traineeship Certificate and other documents.

The internship must always be arranged as a full-time position (minimum 35 hours per week); otherwise, it cannot be carried out.

The application is submitted electronically through STUDIS.

Students must attach a pre-approved Traineeship Agreement to their application, which must include:

    • Identification of all contractual parties
    • A detailed work plan
    • A monitoring and evaluation plan
    • A clear and specific description of the intern’s role and tasks (avoid vague terms such as "various," "some," or "all")

    BEFORE DEPARTURE

    Signing the participation agreement

Once the application is approved, students must personally sign the Participation Agreement at the Internationalization Office at the BUT Rectorate, no later than one week before the start of the internship. The agreement cannot be signed after the internship has begun.

    • Start of the internship: The first day the intern must be present at the host institution (typically a working day).
    • End of the internship: The last day the intern must be present at the host institution (typically a working day).
    • Travel days are not included in the duration of the internship.

    DURING THE INTERNSHIP

    Changes to the Traineeship Agreement

    • Any modifications to the work plan must be reported immediately via the "Changes to Traineeship Agreement" form.
    • Changes must be communicated to the faculty coordinator and the Internationalization Office.

    Extending the Internship

    • Students can request an internship extension using the Extension Request Form.
    • The request must be approved by the host institution representative and a faculty official and submitted to the Internationalization Office at least 30 days before the internship ends.
    • Extension funding is not guaranteed; it depends on the sending institution's financial resources.
      • Extension without financial support: The student will not receive additional funding but retains Erasmus+ student status and related benefits.
      • Extension with financial support: Possible only if there are sufficient Erasmus+ funds, and any change in funding must be reflected in an amendment to the Participation Agreement.
    • Currently, internship extensions are granted without additional Erasmus+ financial support.

    Shortening the Internship

    • Must be agreed upon with the sending institution and handled through an amendment to the Participation Agreement, with proportional reduction of financial support.
    • If the internship is shortened by more than 5 calendar days, the student must return the corresponding portion of the grant.
    • For short-term internships, there is no 5-day tolerance—any shortening requires repayment of the proportional financial support.

    AFTER RETURNING

After completing the internship, students must:

    • Submit in person to the Erasmus Office the original Traineeship Certificate (signed by the host organization) within 15 days of finishing the internship. Alternatively, the host institution can email the certificate to erasmus@vutbr.cz.
    • Submit a final report to the Erasmus Office (erasmus@vutbr.cz)
    • Within 15 days of receiving the request, complete the EU Survey (the Erasmus+ final report) in the European Commission's online database (students will receive a request via their school email).
