This bachelor’s thesis examines the differences between the parameters of a composite spectrum and those of its individual components when played in isolation. The aim of this thesis is to describe how selected spectral and psychoacoustic properties of sound change when individual tones are combined into intervals and chords. Reference sine waves and samples of the flute and trumpet were used for comparison. The individual tones were processed in the MATLAB environment. The analysis was performed using spectrograms, LPC envelopes, and calculations of selected parameters, specifically the harmonic ratio, sharpness, and roughness. The results show that composite chords do not merely exhibit the simple sum of the properties of individual tones, but rather exhibit changes in the monitored parameters. The most significant differences are evident primarily in denser chords, where spectral components overlap more. A comparison of instruments shows that the resulting values are influenced not only by the pitch and number of tones, but also by the timbre and the distribution of harmonic components of the given instrument.
