Course detail

Čištění odpadních vod a jejich další využití

FAST-CZV-ČOVAcad. year: 2026/2027

The course focuses on describing the current state of knowledge in the field of municipal wastewater, including the definition of options for its treatment and subsequent recycling for further use, from the perspectives of: i) water recycling and reuse, ii) recovery and use of thermal energy, and iii) recycling and recovery of nutrients, particularly from sewage sludge. The course will deepen theoretical knowledge in the field of wastewater treatment and its further use within the concept of a circular wastewater treatment plant. This knowledge will also be discussed in relation to the objectives and requirements of the European Green Deal and its related strategies. In this context, the concept of a circular wastewater treatment plant represents a possible solution for the use of cleaner energy sources, optimization of energy efficiency, integration of energy systems, and support for the circular economy in sewage sludge management. The practical classes will focus on conceptual design proposals aimed at implementing selected technological elements at a selected wastewater treatment plant.

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic overview of the current state of knowledge in wastewater treatment, with a focus on both wastewater treatment technologies and technologies related to the use of wastewater as an input raw material for producing final products in accordance with the principles of the circular economy and the objectives of the European Green Deal, following the concept of “from waste to product.”
