English for Business Communication 1

This course builds on the compulsory Business English module taken in the first year of study. It develops both general English skills and the specific features of business communication at the B2 level. The course equips students with the specialist vocabulary and professional communication skills required for success in the workplace.

Entry knowledge

The course is designed for students at the B1 (intermediate) level who have completed the first-year Business English course. As the focus is primarily on vocabulary and communication skills, a solid foundation in general English is expected.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Assessment

  • Class attendance (minimum 75% attendance required): 35 points
  • Homework assignments: 20 points
  • Final test: 45 points

A minimum of 70 points is required to successfully complete the course.

Exam (final test)

  • Students prepare a short presentation (3–4 minutes) on one of the course topics (e.g., “Our company’s international marketing strategy” or “Management styles and motivation”).
  • Followed by a short Q&A with the teacher (simulating a meeting).

Attendance is systematically monitored by the instructor. In justified cases, absences may be compensated for in agreement with the instructor.

Aims

The aim of the course is to further develop students’ competence in professional communication by focusing on the four key language skills and by introducing selected structures of business English.
