Jan Rajlich, designer from FME BUT, scored at the poster biennial in Warsaw

Designer and lecturer at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering of BUT (FME BUT) Jan Rajlich was successful at the 29th International Poster Biennale in Warsaw. Not only was his poster selected from among six and a half thousand entries to be one of only three hundred to appear at the prestigious exhibition, but his work "Fraktále" was also awarded a bronze medal by the expert jury.

"Colorful, delicate lines tenderly tell the story of life and death. A poetic journey through human experience." This was how the expert jury described the poster "Fraktále," which Jan Rajlich created earlier this year for an exhibition at Galerie 13 – Zadní trakt in Brno. On July 5 in Warsaw, the designer and teacher from the Department of Industrial Design took third place in the main competition of the oldest and most prestigious poster exhibition in the world. This year, 6,666 posters from 38 countries were submitted, and 309 were selected for the exhibition.

"The Warsaw Poster Biennale has been held since 1966. We often went there with my father, Jan Rajlich Sr., starting in the 1960s, and it was always a big celebration when one of his posters, and later mine, was accepted for the exhibition," recalls Rajlich. "I first exhibited my poster design Habitat in Warsaw in 1976. Now, almost 50 years later, I have received an award in Warsaw for the first time, which is a really big surprise and success for me. A relatively young jury chose my poster, even though I just turned 75 a month ago," says Rajlich, who devotes himself to poster design only from time to time, but still enjoys it. "And I'm glad to see that it has some value not only for me, but also for those around me," he concludes.
