Invitation to coffee with Czech president accepted also two BUT students

On Tuesday, August 19, an exceptional meeting took place in Lány between the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, and young founders of innovative companies as well as creators of groundbreaking projects from various parts of the country. The event aimed to highlight the initiative and creative activities of the young generation – from university projects to their commercial development after graduation. More than 40 selected participants were invited to the prestigious meeting, with nominations coordinated by the South Moravian Innovation Centre (JIC). Among those who accepted the invitation and had the opportunity to present their ideas at the meeting were Dominik Klement, a doctoral student at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication Technologies of BUT, and Vojtěch Oravec, a student of the Faculty of Business and Management at BUT.

“It was a great opportunity to meet young enterprising people with the same ambitions. We made many new contacts, broadened our horizons, and gained insight into how interesting projects are emerging in the Czech Republic,” said Dominik Klement about the meeting. He had already met President Pavel in person once before. During last year’s visit to Brno University of Technology, the President signed the satellite of the KOSTKA mission of the YSpace team, where Dominik is also involved. At that time, the President reportedly noted that even Earth was not enough for them and that he wished the students success on their journey to the stars.

"I presented my new project, Ranketta, which focuses on analyzing the reputation and visibility of entities in language models such as ChatGPT and Gemini. I am investigating how language models perceive and present individual entities, including the president, his predecessors, and political parties. I also showed the president an analysis of what voters would see if they asked language models who to vote for in October. The president immediately connected me with his internal policy team and suggested that the results be made public. I subsequently did so," said Vojtěch Oravec, describing his meeting with the president.

Both invited students represent successful examples of student entrepreneurship at Brno University of Technology. With their projects, both also became winners of the university competition BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award.

Dominik Klement, working at the faculty’s Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Electrical Engineering (UTEE), gained recognition thanks to his project Volteek – an advanced system for controlling battery storage units, which he launched during his master’s studies in 2023 and for which he won first place in the 2023/2024 competition.

Vojtěch Oravec succeeded in the following edition with the application OneCalend for planning and organizing meetings, which currently makes work easier for more than 150 users.
