The Czech academic team is heading to the 2025 Winter World University Games! The 32nd edition of the FISU Winter World University Games will take place from January 13 to 23 in Torino, Italy. This grand event celebrates international university winter sports, inclusion, and culture. The Czech team will be represented by a total of 96 athletes competing in all 11 winter sports, including 9 mandatory and 2 optional disciplines. Among them are two talented students from Brno University of Technology (BUT) – Marek Gajdečka and Jan Rubáček. Both are bachelor’s degree students at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.Marek Gajdečka from FMR will represent BUT in the freeski discipline. | Autor: czech-skiMarek Gajdečka and Jan Rubáček will compete in the freeski discipline – moguls (bumps skiing). The competition will take place in the Bardonecchia ski resort. Marek Gajdečka is among the world's best in his discipline, regularly competing in the World Cup and achieving 20th place at the Junior World Championships. At BUT, he has already been recognized in the 2023 Athlete of the Year poll.
Extensive international participation
At the 2025 Winter World University Games, 1,600 students from over 600 universities in more than 50 countries will compete for medals. Over 10 competition days, athletes will test their skills across 11 sports, with events held at six different venues.
Torino is a remarkable location that has hosted numerous major sporting events, including the 2006 Winter Olympics. Memorable moments and medals (1-2-1) include Kateřina Neumannová’s gold in the 30 km cross-country skiing event.BUT athletes will have a unique opportunity to shine on the international stage and represent their university at the highest level.
