Jakub Jansa, a professor at the FFA BUT, has won the international Paul Thorel Award

Jakub Jansa, a lecturer at the Performance Studio of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology, has received the prestigious international Paul Thorel Prize, which honours outstanding figures in contemporary digital art. The award is presented annually by the Italian Paul Thorel Foundation to artists whose work offers original responses to the transformation of digital technologies and their impact on society.


After three inaugural editions focused primarily on the Italian art scene, the prize is now expanding into an international context while continuing to support Italian artists. This year, two laureates were selected – Italian transmedia artist S()fia Braga and Czech artist and FaVU lecturer Jakub Jansa. Both recipients will take part in a one-month residency in Naples, home to the former studio and archive of Paul Thorel, the Italian-French pioneer of electronic imagery and digital photography, and will also have the opportunity to present a solo exhibition in the newly renovated spaces of the Fondazione Paul Thorel.

Jakub Jansa is one of the leading figures of the contemporary Czech art scene, and this international recognition follows another major milestone in his career this year. Jansa is also co-author of The Silence of the Mole, the project representing the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the Venice Biennale, where it is on display in the Czechoslovak Pavilion in the Giardini until November 2026.
