From technological innovations and architectural designs to creative solutions for today’s challenges, the best bachelor’s theses presented at the annual 8 from BUT showcase the remarkable diversity of the university. Every project reflects the wide range of study programmes, fresh ideas, and talented students who are pushing their fields forward.

8 from BUT is an annual showcase of the best bachelor’s theses from all eight faculties of Brno University of Technology. During eight-minute presentations, students introduce the topics of their final projects to the audience in the clearest and most engaging way possible. The tradition of the showcase dates back to 2014.

This year, videos featuring the best student projects have been produced for the first time, offering a closer look at the featured topics and demonstrating what students can achieve during their studies at BUT. In the videos, students explain the projects they worked on and show how they applied their knowledge to solve real technical, architectural, business, scientific, and societal challenges.

Get inspired! You might just discover the field you want to pursue in the future.

Denisa Zezulová, a graduate of the Business Economics programme at the Faculty of Business and Management and this year’s Audience Award winner, presents a marketing strategy for a manufacturer of dog urinals. Her thesis proposes ways to increase awareness of a product designed to help keep cities cleaner.

Eva Severová, a graduate of the Chemistry and Chemical Technology programme at the Faculty of Chemistry, worked on developing special antibacterial coatings that could be used on joint implants, catheters, and other medical devices. Her solution enables faster and more environmentally friendly production without toxic solvents.

Pavel Zámečník, a graduate of the Building Architecture programme at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, offers an insight into the design of the new Herold Bakery building in Brno-Černovice. Alongside the architectural concept, he incorporated sustainable features such as a green roof, waste heat recovery, and environmentally friendly water management.

Josef Šikula, a graduate of the Electronics and Communication Technologies programme at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Communication, designed a people-counting system using infrared sensors. Compared to existing solutions, it can more accurately detect multiple people passing through at the same time and could be used, for example, in public transport.

Lucie Klímová, a graduate of the Information Technology programme at the Faculty of Information Technology, demonstrates how computer science can accelerate DNA analysis. Her method can identify specific genetic sequences up to ten times faster, helping researchers study genome evolution more efficiently.

Vojtěch Frühbauer, a graduate of the Physical Engineering and Nanotechnology programme at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, presents nanostructures capable of directing light more efficiently. His research could contribute to the development of future quantum technologies and optical communication.

Alžbeta Papíková, a graduate of the Fine Art programme at the Faculty of Fine Arts, explores the position of minorities in society through a performance combining movement, poetry, light, and sound to reflect the need for belonging and community.

You can watch all the videos on the official BUT YouTube channel!
