At the end of May, the square at the intersection of Pekařská and Anenská streets came alive with a public presentation of the project Urban Youth: The City According to You. Faculty of Architecture at BUT joined the event as a partner and an active participant in a process that connects young people, the city, and contemporary thinking about public space.Students have revitalized Brno's public spaces. | Author: Viola HertelováPOP–UP PEKAŘSKÁ showcased the results of several months of work by students who explored how the younger generation perceives the city and how they can contribute to its transformation. Analytical maps, field observations, and design proposals led to a tangible intervention directly in the streets of Brno – a temporary installation responding to the everyday use of the site and its community potential. The programme included the official unveiling of the installation, a presentation of the entire process from analysis to implementation, and an open discussion about the future of public space in Brno. The event was complemented by a community programme and informal gatherings among visitors.Author: Viola Hertelová
The Urban Youth project approaches the city as an open laboratory, combining participatory methods with the testing of proposals directly in real-life conditions. An important part of the process are the so-called “reality checks”, during which students validate their ideas through dialogue with actual users of the space. The installations were created as part of a design–build studio at the Faculty of Architecture BUT, under the supervision of Marie Joja. The authors of the implemented interventions are Kristýna Škrabalová and Radek Zabloudil. The event demonstrated that even small, temporary interventions can raise important questions about the sharing and use of public space, as well as who takes part in shaping it.Author: Viola HertelováThe Urban Youth project is organised by the Archipop studio. The project is co-funded by the European Union and implemented with financial support from the City of Brno, under the patronage of the Mayor of Brno and the Governor of the South Moravian Region. Project partners include the Faculty of Architecture at BUT, Vesna, studio KOBRA, and RED-BETON.Source: Faculty of Architecture
