On Friday, 15 May, Republic Square in Žďár nad Sázavou transformed into a vibrant hub of science, technology and entertainment. Brno University of Technology (BUT), with the support of the city, organised the popularisation event Experience BUT, offering visitors interactive demonstrations, experiments and technologies they could try out for themselves.Experience BUT attracted around 1,500 visitors to Žďár nad Sázavou. | Author: Václav KoníčekThe all-day programme attracted a diverse mix of visitors – from kindergarten children and primary and secondary school students to parents, grandparents, the general public and university alumni. In total, around 1,500 people attended the event. The morning programme was aimed mainly at schools, including one kindergarten group whose children experienced their first playful introduction to technology. People of all ages, including local BUT alumni, gathered at the stands throughout the day. The event showed that technology can connect people regardless of age or experience.
Stands hosted by faculties, student teams and partners featuring technological demonstrations and experiments were open to all visitors from the morning onwards. From 2 p.m., the main stage programme also began, featuring science performances, competitions and live music by student bands.Visitors could enjoy breathtaking experiments, high-tech robots and science performances. | Author: Václav Koníček
Visitors had the opportunity to explore technologies spanning the full spectrum of BUT study fields – from a humanoid robot and a virtual tour of a nuclear power plant to 3D printing, an excavator simulator and even ice cream made using liquid nitrogen. The spectacular chemistry and physics performances received particularly enthusiastic responses, repeatedly filling the space in front of the main stage and becoming one of the highlights of the day.
“We want to show that technology is not something distant or complicated that people should be afraid of. On the contrary, it is a practical and often creative way of solving problems we encounter in everyday life,” says event coordinator Kateřina Hrozná from the BUT Marketing Department.
The choice of Žďár nad Sázavou was no coincidence. The Vysočina Region has a strong industrial tradition and has long supported technical education. An important BUT partner in the region is the Secondary Technical School Žďár nad Sázavou, which cooperates with around one hundred industrial companies and with which the university develops joint activities.A total of 275 students took part in the morning lectures and workshops. | Author: Václav Koníček“We are pleased that we were able to organise the event in Žďár nad Sázavou. It is a region with strong technical potential, solid industrial partners and an active approach to supporting education. We greatly appreciate the support of the city, which provided us with the square free of charge and also helped promote the entire event,” adds Kateřina Hrozná.
Experience BUT in Žďár nad Sázavou further supported and confirmed the growing interest in technical education. This year, BUT has recorded more than 13,600 applications for bachelor’s degree programmes and continues to strengthen its position among the most sought-after technical universities in the Czech Republic.
