In addition to well-deserved rest, summer break also offers an opportunity to focus on your own ideas. For the sixth time, the BoosterChallenge BUT 2026 program is back, giving students the opportunity to turn their projects into reality. The challenge is open to anyone who wants to make meaningful use of their summer, collaborate across disciplines, and take their idea to the next level. The deadline for submitting proposals is June 10, 2026. Winners of BoosterChallenge 2025. | Author: Václav Koníček
The BoosterChallenge BUT program is designed for students who have an idea but don’t have time to implement it during the semester. Both established teams and individuals from all faculties and departments of BUT who are still looking for collaborators can apply. Inter-faculty collaboration is one of the program’s greatest benefits, as combining different skills and perspectives increases the chance of creating a functional and usable solution.
Inspiration can come, for example, from bachelor’s, master’s, or term papers with potential for further development, but entirely new projects created specifically for the BoosterChallenge are also welcome. Successful teams will receive financial support for further prototype development.
During the summer, teams can work on their projects from anywhere—from home or on the premises of BUT faculties and departments, such as OpenSpace@FIT, strojLab or other laboratories and workshops. The university’s facilities allow you to focus on what matters most: turning your idea into a functional prototype.
Project proposals can be submitted by June 10. Optional networkingis also open until the same date, helping to connect students across disciplines—both those who are looking for team members, as well as those who want to get involved without their own project.
Decisions on acceptance into the program will be made by June 12, and the selected teams will then get to work. Results must be submitted by September 6, and final presentations and project evaluations will take place starting September 7.

In the previous year, the committee selected a total of 19 projects with diverse focuses. Right away 13 of them received financial support, which the students could use for further development. The projects were evaluated by a committee composed of representatives from BUT and the JIC innovation agency, based on innovation, technical solutions, business potential, and social impact.
Among the successful projects was, for example, the SOFOS project aimed at streamlining service in the food service industry, and the cyrcID platform supporting the implementation of a digital product passport. The RUFFE – Revíry app for the fishing community, which recorded more than 1,000 downloads over the summer, and the Power Greens biotechnology device for plant cultivation were also successful. Details about the individual projects and their developers are available on the BoosterChallenge website.
Program participants can also enter the BUT Student Entrepreneurship Award competition, which helps develop projects in terms of their entrepreneurial potential. Registration details will be published on the ContriBUTe website.
The BoosterChallenge program was originally established at the Faculty of Information Technology at BUT as a competition focused on IT projects. The program has gradually expanded across the entire university and is now open to students from all faculties and departments without any field-specific restrictions.
Supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of students and staff is a strategic priority at BUT. This is one of the reasons why the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem ContriBUTe was established here, offering education, opportunities, events, resources, and contacts in the field of innovation. In this way, BUT helps transform university ideas into real projects and viable businesses.
