Students and graduate of Brno University of Technology receive Czech International Student Design Award
In this year's Czech International Student Design Award, which included product and industrial design as well as applied arts, five students and one graduate from Brno University of Technology succeeded. Student Andrej Ilič from the Faculty of Fine Arts and graduate Kateřina Kiliánová from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering were successful in the category Excellent Student Design. The Czech International Student Design Award is an international competition intended for students focused on design, architecture, crafts, and fine arts.

The Czech International Student Design Award in the
Excellent Student Design
category was awarded to Andrej Ilič, a student of the Product Design Studio at FFA, for his
Puff stool
, and to FME graduate Kateřina Kiliánová for the
ARTiGEE mobile X-ray
. Kateřina Kiliánová’s design responds to the everyday needs of radiology assistants and combines technical functionality with a thoughtful and minimalist design. “M
obile X-rays are technically very advanced, which is why I focused on the users who are in daily contact with them. In terms of innovation, it’s more about details that can improve work efficiency with the device. For example, a new type of flexible arm, sufficient storage space, access to the rear wheels, or the hygienic maintainability of the device,” she explained.

In the category
Good Student Design
, two students from Brno University of Technology were successful. Tadeáš Tobeš, a student of Industrial Design in Mechanical Engineering at FME, impressed the expert jury with his
audio recorder for the blind and visually impaired
, a device that makes audio creation accessible to users for whom it is the most natural medium. The second award went to Matyáš Zouhar, also a student of Industrial Design in Mechanical Engineering at FME, for his modern and ergonomic design of a
portable power generator

Tadeáš Tobeš’s audio recorder also received the Dean’s Award from the Faculty of Multimedia Communications at Tomas Bata University in Zlín.
The Czech Ergonomics Society Award went to FME student Dalibor Svoboda for his design of a handheld electric
textile circular cutter
. The Institute of Machine Design Award of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at BUT was received by FME student Viktor Novotný for his self-sufficient

A total of 257 authors from 14 universities and higher education institutions and 23 secondary and vocational schools entered this year’s 35th edition of the National Award for Student Design. Their works were evaluated by an independent national jury composed of secondary and vocational school teachers, an international jury composed of university lecturers, and an international jury composed of museum curators, independent experts, and top professional designers from the Czech Republic and abroad.
The awarded projects can be viewed at the exhibition New Goods! Czech International Student Design Award 2025 in the Czech Design Passage until January 6, 2026.
