Brno, as we all know, is one of the best places to live and study in. The moment when you leave your home is critical, and before you decided to enter the new life, you should know some stuff. First of all, one of my best observations is the more time you spent in city (new city) the less money you will spend monthly on living in it (because of small cheap markets that you will find only in 5 weeks, realizing that IKEA's stuff is sometimes cheaper than TESCO's, etc.). The first month here cost me 500 Euros, the next month 300 and then the expenses were less and less, now I can live here for 150-200, eating normally, visiting clubs and restaurants, and saving money for summer trips :). In addition, be a smart student, do not be students that come here, drink for 3 months and then fail all the exams, because they were busy having a hangover. Nevertheless, Brno is small, we have a lot of interesting things to do here. Try to balance all of your activities, visit theatres on Moravské náměstí or Caribic night club, McDonald's or Dřevený Vlk (is a really great and cheap place, their burgers and beers are delicious), Špilberk (great castle in the centre) or go for carting. In general, you have a lot of food to try and a lot of places to visit, and I cannot emphasize more of them because all of them deserve your time.
Finally, my advice is trying to speak with as many people as you can, because you have a great chance to live in this city, and people here are so nice and kind, that you will definitely remember these words while spending time with them. As for me that should be enough for an adaptation period. Now, I want to motivate you and tell you something about the ways you can come here. The exact way depends on your status.

In case if you have just finished the school (or you are in your last grades) you should decide and choose the language that you want to study on, there are only 2 choices English or Czech. English option is more popular because the English language is more popular (obviously) and there are a huge amount of faculties to choose, it is more expensive but this option will save you a year or maybe two of learning the Czech language (which will be equivalent in money), on the other hand, the Czech language option is cheaper but harder, due to the fact that Czech language is harder than English (To my way of thinking) and as I mentioned above, you will spend more time on learning, but the idea of learning a new language made me choose the second option (I don’t regret because Czech helps me in clubs and markets). In one word both options have pros and cons, the only thing is a personal preference.
In other cases, you are an Erasmus student, bachelor, master or even higher, (in case you are an Erasmus student, you can just transfer for 3 – 12 months) for all of the cases the procedure is the same as for option above.

The process of collecting documents for VISA is almost the same. First of all, you need to buy insurance that will be valid in whole Schengen zone (Students are able to travel across the whole Europe, and Europe should be sure that in case of any injuries a student will get the free medical help), the certificate of your bank account status, 3600 Euros (Europe should be sure that you have enough money to survive in Europe for one year), the certificate from the study place (whether it is a university of the Czech language courses), the certificate from the place you will live in, usually your university will care about that (in case if you will live in universities accommodation) or you can find an apartment yourself, write an email to an owner, and he will send you the documents you need, two obvious things that are passport and photos, in case if you are under 18, don’t forget to get the permission from your parents, and finally a Visa Application form, you can find it on the internet or at the Czech government embassy (don’t forget to complete it). Finally, you go to your country’s embassy, leave the documents there and wait for a call.
On your trip day (one of the best emotions in my life) you enter the Czech Republic, in case if it is your first time you should come by plane (no restrictions for the next times). You can buy a phone number at the airport (about 8 Euros) and then go to Brno. There are 2 main ways, train, or bus. From my own experience, trains are faster during the days because buses can be stuck in traffic, while in the night buses are driving about 120 Km/h on the empty road and reach the destination faster. Flixbus and RegioJet are 2 main companies that will help you to reach Brno. There are a lot of intercity train or bus stations (Florence (Bus station), Main Train Station, etc.). So, the steps are 1) You choose the way you will go to Brno. 2) There are buses from the airport to the Train Station (They cost 50 CZK = 2 Euro), you reach the Train Station (Florence is in the 10 minutes’ walk). 3) You buy tickets online or right at the desk, pay for additional luggage, sit in the transport and fly towards your dream.
Snowy winter in Brno
P.S The temperature in winter is almost never below 0, and summers here are hot, remember this while packing your things.Date: 23. July.2020 Student ambassador: Raul Aghayev
