Original title in Czech: Pozemní stavbyFASTAbbreviation: SAcad. year: 2013/2014Specialisation: Building Constructions Design

Programme: Civil Engineering

Length of Study: 1.5 years

Accredited from: 30.10.2003Accredited until: 1.8.2015

Profile

The Structural Engineering Design and Analysis specialisation of the Building Constructions branch of the trimestral consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering follows on from four-year bachelor’s courses of a similar technical nature. During their studies, students extend their knowledge of the latest scientific and technical findings in the Structural Engineering Design and Analysis specialisation of the Building Constructions field of study.
Their studies are purposefully focused on the individual specialisations of the field, these being the design of metal and timber structures, the design of concrete and masonry structures, structural mechanics and geotechnics.
During their studies, students become familiar with the latest scientific and technical findings in all their complex mutual interconnectivity and are guided towards the performance of individual creative engineering work. They apply the knowledge acquired in the individual subjects in individually assigned engineering and technical tasks concerning the issues of the given field of study. During the course, great emphasis is placed on independent and creative engineering work.

Key learning outcomes

Graduates from the Structural Engineering Design and Analysis specialisation of the Building Constructions course of study have gained highly specialised (theoretical and professional) knowledge in the studied field and specialisation. They are capable of applying the acquired knowledge in the solution of problems within the given field of study.
They are capable, within the scope of the skills they have gained, of independently solving even demanding specialised problems (the independent solution of complex engineering, technical and managerial problems in the construction industry), and are thus prepared for their engineering career in industry. They are capable of implementing comprehensive solutions to engineering problems.
As highly-qualified specialists, graduates are able to hold high engineering and managerial posts and successfully perform the functions required of them, and are equipped with the prerequisites for the solution of even complex technical problems, and not only during the comprehensive design of load bearing structures under static load for buildings, but also during the preparation and realization of such structures.
Within the context of professional competence (after gaining the required amount of work experience), graduates from the Structural Engineering Design and Analysis specialisation of the Building Constructions course of study can gain certification from the Czech Chamber of Chartered Engineers and Technicians Engaged in Construction.
They are able to manage complex technical or specialised activities or projects and take responsibility for their quality. They are also capable of taking responsibility for the specialised management of individuals and groups.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduates from the Structural Engineering Design and Analysis specialisation of the Building Constructions branch of the trimestral consecutive master’s study programme Civil Engineering have deepened their knowledge of theoretical and specialised disciplines. They are entitled to use the title "inženýr" (abbreviated to Ing.) before their name. Graduates are familiar with the newest scientific and technical findings in all their complex mutual interconnectivity. They apply the knowledge acquired in individual subjects in individually assigned construction and technical tasks concerning the issues of the given field of study. They are capable of independent creative work as an engineer. As highly-qualified specialists, graduates are able to hold high engineering and managerial posts and successfully perform the functions required of them. They are capable of producing documentation for the preparation and realization of building constructions, and of processing and preparing engineering and technical surveys as well as statements drawn from professional expertise and expert reports.
Graduates also have the prerequisites for work in the field as a private entrepreneur.
After the stipulated period of work experience, graduates can gain certification as certified engineers in one of the certified fields of the Czech Chamber of Chartered Engineers and Technicians Engaged in Construction.
They can also find employment within their field in the area of research and development.
Graduates’ knowledge of foreign languages in their area of specialisation will enable them to work abroad, if this is required.
