This master's thesis focuses on sodium-ion batteries. Sodium-ion batteries belong to the category of so-called post-lithium systems and are highly promising. The thesis includes a description of the sodium-ion battery and an introduction to basic electrode materials. Furthermore, the issue of anode materials for sodium-ion batteries is discussed in detail. Lead is introduced as a promising electrode material for these systems. The theoretical part investigates the phase transition mechanisms in the Na–Pb system and electrolytes for lead electrode. The experimental part explores the feasibility of utilizing spongy electrodes derived from lead-acid batteries and examines the performance of lead foil in three different electrolyte systems. The results revealed that spongy electrodes from lead acid batteries are unsuitable due to surface passivation, unfavourable geometry. Regarding the lead foil testing, it was concluded that a carbonate solvent-based electrolyte appears to be the most promising, as the system exhibited the best electrochemical performance, although at the cost of significant degradation caused by volume changes.
