The bachelor’s thesis deals with the revitalization and extension of the sports airfield complex in Brno–Medlánky. The airfield is located on the northwestern edge of Brno, in a place where the city gradually transitions into the open landscape of the Medlánky Hills. This position gives the site its specific character — connecting the technical operation of the airfield, the club life of pilots, the history of sport aviation, and the recreational use of the surrounding landscape.
The design responds to the current state of the complex, which has developed gradually and without a unified concept. The aim is to make the airfield more legible, supplement its missing functions, and create a clearer relationship between the areas intended for pilots and the spaces accessible to the public. The intention is not to close off the site, but to organize it naturally so that it can safely function as a sports airfield while also offering visitors the opportunity to experience and understand the place more closely.
The proposal includes the revitalization of the historic part of the existing hangar, into which exhibition and club spaces are inserted, a new café with views of the landscape, a new hangar for gliders, and accommodation for pilots and visitors with regeneration facilities. The design approaches the airfield as a place on the border between technical operation and landscape — as a complex that can serve aviators while also becoming an inviting destination for the public.
