This thesis focuses on the development of a robotic lawn mower. The first part is devoted to the study of autonomous movement on a roughly flat surface. It explains some of the principles of localization, mapping, and navigation. This section also provides an introduction to working with the ROS 2 framework. This is followed by the physical transformation of an old robotic lawn mower with a lower level of autonomy into a machine equipped with a suitable combination of sensors, such as rotary encoders for odometry, LiDAR, ultrasonic sensors, an IMU unit, etc. The appropriate electronics are selected, and a new design for the lawn mower is created. Control is divided into a low-level part for real-time management of sensors and motors and a high-level part for computationally intensive calculations and control. The low-level part is handled by an ESP32 microcontroller with the DevKitC add-on. The main control unit was a Raspberry Pi 5 single-board computer. As part of the autonomous robotics solution, the ROS 2 Jazzy base framework was used, supplemented with custom Python scripts. There were two interfaces made for users. Finally, spatial mapping was implemented using the SLAM library and tested in an outdoor environment under manual control from a computer. Localization on this map was also tested using the Nav2 library.

Při obhajobě student nejprve prezentoval svoji diplomovou práci, následně byly přečteny posudky a student odpovídal na dotazy oponenta. Poté byly členy komise položeny následující otázky: Kdyby v okolí nebyl plot, ale jenom stromy, jak by to fungovalo? Jak jste řešil komunikaci s lidarem? Dělal jste fúzi dat? Jaký je dosah laseru? Obhajoba byla komisí hodnocena jako výborná.
