Traffic accidents involving pedestrians represent a serious road safety problem, as the shape of a vehicle's front-end profile can significantly influence the severity and location of resulting injuries. This thesis examines this relationship through the analysis of real accident data. For the purposes of this study, 194 forensic reports were provided by the Institute of Forensic Medicine in Brno, of which 58 suitable cases were selected for analysis. Pedestrian injuries were classified according to the AIS scale and vehicles were categorized by body type and hood leading edge height. Results showed that SUV/MPV vehicles caused the most severe pelvic injuries (75% higher than standard passenger cars). Vehicles with a hood leading edge height in the range of 50–60% of the pedestrian's height were found to be the most dangerous for the pelvic region (+68%). Accidents involving trucks and buses were characterized by a near-complete absence of lower extremity injuries. Upper extremity injuries showed no dependence on vehicle body type. The thesis also presents a computational model developed in MS Excel, enabling the approximate identification of an unknown vehicle based on pedestrian injury patterns, limited by the size of the available dataset.
