Course detail

Bioinformatics seminar

FEKT-MPA-BISAcad. year: 2026/2027

The course is focused on topics related to the analysis of bioinformatics and systems biology, i.e. molecular biology and biomedical, data. In addition to the application focus on data analysis, the seminar also focuses on the computational tools for data analysis and their design. The individual iterations of the course differ each year according to current trends in the field of bioinformatics and systems biology and according to the list of invited speakers, which is unique every year.

Language of instruction

English, Czech

Number of ECTS credits

2

Mode of study

Not applicable.

Entry knowledge

Basic knowledge of molecular biology and bioinformatics is required - previous completion of at least one bioinformatics-focused course and one biology-focused course is assumed. The ability to listen to lectures and read a professional article or book chapter in English is also expected.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Criteria for obtaining credit:

- study and present the assigned scientific article

- physically attend seminars with invited lectures and students’ presentations and actively participate in the discussion

Seminars are obligatory, one absence is allowed. Another absence is possible only for health reasons, immediately excused (with confirmation from a MD).

Aims

The aim of the course is to provide students with the latest trends in the field of bioinformatics and systems biology during students’ presentations of the latest scientific articles and invited presentations given by experts from all over the world.
A graduate of the course is able to:
- understand a scientific article in depth
- briefly summarize the basic ideas of a scientific article
- understand a professionally focused lecture
- summarize the main points of a professional scientific presentation
