Dislocation Mechanisms of Plastic Deformations

The course broadens the basic knowledge acquired in the magister course „Dislocations and plastic deformation“. It focuses deeper on the mechanisms of material´s strengthening including mathematical description. Specific dislocation mechanisms in selected important engineering materials (steels, superalloys, aluminum alloys, TiAl intermetallics, hcp metals).
Examples of the behavior of dislocations in other materials according to the focus of individual Ph.D. students.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

Oral presentation of the Ph.D. student including discussion.
Writing a chosen subject in the style of research paper.
Lecture associated with the active participation of Ph.D. student as a way how to check mastering of matter prescribed for study.

Aims

Active adoption of dislocation nature of materials performance during plastic deformation that enable targeted control of material properties including its quantification.
Ph.D. student will obtain advanced knowledge about the nature of plastic deformation including knowledge about possible quantification of dislocation mechanisms based on known models.

2. Deeper on the mechanisms of material´s strenghtening including mathematical description.
3. Specific dislocation mechanisms in selected important engineering materials (steels, superalloys, aluminum alloys, hcp metals).
4. Dislocation mechanisms in advance materials (TiAl intermetallics).
5. Examples of behavior of dislocations in other materials according to the focus of individual PhD students.
