English in Aviation II

The English in Aviation course covers core language and skills at B2 level that students need in order to communicate successfully in aviation professions. The topics reflect ICAO standards for language competency and aim to systematically develop accuracy in grammar, fluency of speech, and the ability to react in various standard and non-standard situations.

Entry knowledge

Students are expected to have command of English at least at B1 level.

Rules for evaluation and completion of the course

The credit requirements are based on student’s work during the semester and a credit test. Students take the credit test at the end of the semester and can earn up to 50 points. In order to fulfil the credit requirements, the student must earn a minimum of 30 points. In case this benchmark is not achieved, there is a possibility for the student to resit the test once in the exam period.

 

The exam is an oral exam and students are interviewed by the examiner individually. First, student’s ability to discuss topics connected with study or work in their field is assessed. A successful exam candidate must interact with a degree of fluency and spontaneity, and their pronunciation, range and accuracy of grammar, and use of professional vocabulary must correspond to B2 level. Second, the candidate is required to perform two specific tasks based on the contents of CLA and DLA courses. In this part, the student must demonstrate their ability to use particular functional language required by the task as well as specialist vocabulary. In order to pass the exam, students must earn a minimum of 50% marks.

Aims

This course aims to develop language profficiency in English at B2 level with he focus on professional vocabulary, gramatical accuracy, communication strategies, and fluency of speech needed for the use of English language in aviation.
