The course follows up on the course studied in the winter semester. The course is focused on general language as well as characteristic features of business communication at the B2 level. It provides students with the relevant specialist language and professional communication skills they will need in the workplace.

Learning Outcomes

This course builds upon the foundations laid in English for Business Communication 1. It develops both general English skills and the specific features of business communication at the B2 level. The course equips students with the specialist vocabulary and professional communication skills required for success in the workplace: strengthening their overall language competence, expanding their specialist vocabulary, and developing practical communication skills necessary for professional contexts.

Prerequisites

The course is designed for students at the B1 (intermediate) level who have completed the first-year Business English course. As the focus is primarily on vocabulary and communication skills, a solid foundation in general English is expected.

Course curriculum

Curriculum includes such essential business topics as recruitment and selection, company structure, meetings and negotiations, international trade, finance and exchange rates, digital transformation and e-commerce models, and many others. 

Assessment

To qualify for the final exam, students must meet all three of the following conditions:

  1. Maintain a minimum 80% class attendance rate (students may skip no more than two lectures).
  2. Complete all required homework assignments.
  3. Pass the course credit test.

The use of AI-generated texts is considered plagiarism and is not permitted. The final exam grade is the overall course grade.

  • A: 90–100%
  • B: 80–89%
  • C: 70–79%
  • D: 60–69%
  • F: below 60% (failing grade)

Completion for Students with Individual Study Plans

  • Same requirements as above.
  • If personal attendance is not possible, an alternative assignment may be arranged with the instructor.

Completion Based on International Certificate
Instead of taking English for Business Communication 2, students may present one of the following internationally recognised certificates, completed within the last five years: CAE or CPE. Other certificates are not accepted.

Completion Based on an Exam at a Foreign University
A course completed within the Erasmus programme at a foreign university that corresponds in content and level to English for Business Communication 2, and includes a final exam may be recognised as equivalent.

Attendance and Absence Policy

Attendance is systematically monitored by the instructor. A student should maintain a minimum 80% class attendance rate (students may skip no more than two lectures). In justified cases, absences may be compensated for in agreement with the instructor.

Entry knowledge

The course is intended for students who are familiar with the language at B1 level (intermediate) since it focuses mainly on vocabulary and communication skills. They are expected to have completed the course of Business English in the first year of study and the course studied in winter semester (English for Business Communication 1).

Attendance at seminars is systematically checked by the teacher. Absence may be in justified cases compensated for by the agreement with the teacher.

Aims

The aim of the course is to acquaint the students with language skills used in professional communication (reading, listening, speaking, writing), and provide them with specific structures of business English.
The course is intended to deepen the student’s language skills necessary for professional communication using relevant vocabulary.

Syllabus

The course is delivered through interactive language lessons aimed at practising all core skills (reading, listening, speaking, and writing) and developing professional vocabulary. Independent student work is also required.
